Choose upbeat, fast tempo songs. Motown, Rock & Roll, and Pop Songs from the
60s, 70s, and 80s grab the audience and judges' attention. Popular Musical
and Broadway hits also work well. |

3. |
Singers ... sing a song that shows off your ability and is within your
range. Avoid contemporary songs that cause people to compare you to the
original artists. |

|
|
4. |
Practice holding a microphone. |
|
|
|
5. |
Be comfortable with your props, other equipment or anything
that you'll be using. |
|
|
|

We use a black backdrop on stage, Wear a costume that will
show up. Bright colors work great! |

Make sure your costume is appropriate. For example, some
songs are good for formal dresses and others may require a character
costume. |

Make sure you can walk in the shoes you'll be wearing on
stage. |

Don't fidget or play with your costume, hair or jewelry on
stage. |

Wear appropriate stage make-up so that you can be seen from
the stage. |

Watch a video of your performance and critique yourself. |

Your performance should tell a story... know who/what you're
portraying. Stay in character on stage at all times! |

Don't look at the floor. Keep your head up and be proud. |

Have your own style. Make yourself stand out. |

Use the entire stage. The stage at Franklin County Fair
is 16 x 32 with a 4 x 16 foot lighted runway. |

Remember that the audience and judges see you enter and exit
the stage. Stay in character and be professional at all times. |

Know that the judges are looking for: Natural Ability,
Quality of Performance, Showmanship, and Audience Appeal. |
